Repositioning and brand restructuring

The client

Zoo Debrecen used to be called Nagyerdei Cultural Park. In addition to the zoo, the facility also includes a botanical garden and an amusement park. Thus, it provides a unique and special experience. The zoo was founded in 1958 and is home to approximately 900 specimens of 170 species from five continents. Its special attraction is the giraffes and the penguin walk, where, true to its name, you can take part in a guided walk with penguins. The amusement park opened in 1960. It currently offers 21 attractions, including a carousel, a roller coaster, a light railway and an enchanted castle.
The Botanical Garden has a rich collection of plant species from all over the world. It has been under nature protection since 1994. The aim of the park is to preserve and pass on timeless classic attractions to new generations, while introducing new, modern rides and experiences.

The task

Nagyerdei Kultúrpark has announced an invitational logo design competition due to its name change. We were also invited to this tender. The requested style trends were: modern, playful and organic. In addition, we were given a free hand.

Our solution

Based on our survey and research, our goal with the submitted plans was to bring the facility's appearance more in line with the represented values and the target audience, in addition to the name change. We are repositioning it in order to make it attractive to the new generation as well, to appeal to new customer groups.

During the planning process, the three institutions were treated together, but as separate units, sub-brands. The essence of our concept is that the logos of each institution can be used separately, but at the same time reinforce each other and show a uniform appearance.

In our opinion, the separate election was necessary because, although they are located together, in the same place, they have different types of programs and their relevance and main season are at different times of the year.

In addition to a common appearance, different and periodic communication can be solved with separate sub-brands.

We designed unique inscriptions for the image, which can be recognized individually and stand their ground even without an emblem. Due to the varied use and the otherwise interesting and lively contents, we did not consider it important to create a common logo, instead we suggested a dynamic version supplemented with graphics.

It was not our proposal that won the customer's approval in the tender.
